How Women Athletes Empower Young Girls

The impact of female athletes has had a staggering effect on young girls and their confidence. Seeing other women engage in sports and activities that a young girl may be too nervous to participate in helps grant them greater confidence and hope for their own abilities. The empowerment strong women have on younger girls creates a grand moral compass and ideology for them to look up to as they aim for their own success and goals. Female athletes, olympians, and even outside of sports, politicians, business women, etc, create an indestructible community of foundations and confidence for maturing girls.

Specifically, women in sports are especially motivating for younger girls aspiring to play sports, as athletics are usually a male dominated field, seeing more women build professional careers within sports is incredibly important and helpful in building the confidence of younger generations. Once engaged in a sport, studies have shown that being in such sport helps keep young girls more motivated, active, and higher in self-esteem. They are able to connect with their fellow athletes, building a strong community based on physical health and enjoyable activities. Partaking in a sport is also great exercise for young women, also contributing to a healthier mental state and greater self-confidence.

Belonging to a community centered around a beloved activity, such as a sport, can become a very precious and important part of a young girl’s life, giving them a constant support system to fall back on during their maturing years. Being in a community with female coaches and idols is also very important to young girls, providing them with a constant figure to look up to and gain confidence from, seeing first-hand how their dreams are attainable and should be aspired. Belonging to a said community also builds a civility and morality within young women, teaching them group skills, perseverance, patience, and especially confidence. Women in the Olympics are proven to be incredibly successful and celebrated within the athletic world, being praised and awarded for their time and hard work, in a field previously dominated by solely men. This shift in dynamics within sport events and activities is something very admired by supporters and dreamers alike. As women athletes continue to participate in sports and succeed greatly, younger generations looking up to them can see how aspirable their dreams are, and that, as the years have passed, their dreams may not be as unattainable anymore. Something that would have been impossible in the past, even as simple as a woman in the Olympics or in a career-based sport, is now highly common and achievable by any young girl who dreams big enough and works hard enough to do so, building their confidence to step outside of their comfort zone through observing other women who were once just like them.

The wonder female athletes spark in young girls continues to grow each passing day, and will only continue to do so as women continue to follow their dreams and become what they know they can be, building an incredible community of confidence and ability, made for admiring and idolizing.
